I've been thinking a lot about something said in the latest episode of @srslywrong. War is the polar opposite of ecology. There is no way to "green" a military because the purpose of any military is to destroy - infrastructure, environments, and people. There's no way to make an entity that consumes resources to destroy other resources sustainable or ecological.
