For #SciArtSeptember prompt “favourite” & the last day of #InverteFest is the pollinators’ favourite: the ridiculously titled “My milkweed brings all the bugs to my yard”
This linocut print is about the milkweed plant, beloved of the native pollinators. Well-known for its appeal to monarch butterflies, it is also a favourite of the many different native bumblebees & insects like this small milkweed bug. 1/2
There are also many other insects whose very name comes from the milkweed plant which I haven’t included (like the large milkweed bug, the false milkweed bug, milkweed leaf beetles, milkweed longhorned beetles and milkweed tussock moth). To get the colour of the stem, leaves, blooms, butterfly, bug and bumblebee, I have collaged various lovely, handmade, Japanese papers. This print is part of a a variable edition. Each print is 12.5” tall by 9.25” wide.
