I have been warning both friends and family about this, and advising them to ditch mains grid ASAP & behold:

#Pakistan effectively abandons #NetMetering to 'cope' with #Rooftop #solar revolution

dawn.com/news/1897740/solar-us

Net-billing axed, electricity purchases from solar prosumers capped at roughly a FIFTH of what they sold from the grid, full sales tax (GST) + surcharges  irrespective of net consumption, no tax refunds

This is so stupid lol

Oof!

I’ve just bought a private jet yet ‘My commitment to climate is as strong as ever. I’m still pretty damn focused on making an impact at a large scale, removing huge volumes of emissions through active investments & philanthropy’

Follow up on wildlife garden:
we spotted a robin nesting in the nest box of our neighbours, but I consider that also part of our family because all the fluffs for the nest came from our back garden.
These tiny critters just fill my day with joy!

There won't be a "last human alive" in any meaningful sense of the word. Withering remnants will exist until their capacity to care for themselves completely collapses (or, rather, runs out), and one by one the flames will sputter. Over and over, everywhere, spread out, unaware of each other.

Did not know India's and Bangladesh's programmes were so far ahead of the world

Seit dieser Nacht regnet es in #Wien. Wie schön! Das hilft aber kaum, denn nach diesem fast niederschlagslosen Winter ist es schon fast zu spät für ein geregeltes Wachstum der Pflanzen.

#AskFedi bc I need a refresher:

Were there, or were there not, studies during the *designated pandemic years (2020-21)* (/s) re: #Covid19 + #ClimateChange impact on gut health, with one major symptom being something like the stomach flu?

If anyone has the links and receipts, PLEASE REPLY!

Even a local newspaper here in West Bengal, India, carried a headline recently re: the outbreak of a kind of stomach flu, with symptoms such as lack of appetite, exhaustion, indigestion, and diarrhoea. My BFFs are down with it, and I am, too. And yesterday the news announced an oncoming heat wave this weekend 🫠

EDIT 15:33 HRS: following @hopeward 's clue, I think this could be a norovirus outbreak, because reading up on it, the symptoms all match. I don't know if the TV news channels have covered it at all.

Masking is sporadic here, almost rare. I still mask up, but ~ it does get difficult to breathe in a mask at 12:30 PM at 36°C ~ especially when chronic pain makes it hard for me to breathe even at home. Outside, there's also significant shaming and peer pressure to NOT mask up.

And as always, it's way worse for people with #Disabilities and #ChronicIllness (for instance: me), but people in this ableist, fascist hellhole of a country never want to talk about it.

“They want to hang on in the suburbs for as long as possible.”

That’s me at the moment.

It’s terrifying how easy it’s been to not think much about climate stuff recently; to let it become “ambient”. I know it’s wrong and hope it will change, but right now my subconscious is all focused on sorting out income so that my family and I can have some more time in the suburbs. Not great.

As a middle-aged man I try to look after myself by running, cycling, stretching and touching my toes in the morning, doing climate activism, eating fresh veg, going to bed at a regular time, speaking to friends regularly, demonstrating with friends against the fossil fuel industry, meditatiing occasionally, intellectual stimulation, educating myself about #ClimateJustice, listening to birdsong, journalling, having conversations about ecology and trying to keep a #ClimateDiary.

Hour little “wildlife friendly” garden (which basically means very little maintenance, lots of mess, and boyfriend rescuing every single damage wildlife nest he can find) tonight surprised us with not one but two hedgehogs! We don’t know if they were courting or fighting, anyway seemed pretty busy. What can I say, after cats, frogs, small birds, various bees, squirrels, and yes, also mice, welcome to the family, little spiky balls!

" ‘Widespread death’ of Shisham trees in Potohar "

dawn.com/news/1896863/widespre

#ClimateChange implicated in tree deaths across the country. Unusual extreme drought and floods have upset the natural balance in soil, stressed trees enough that mass die backs have begun due to fungal infections underground.

As usual, this was only noticed once businesses began feeling the effects (furniture/carpentry).
